Payroll Relief Employee Self Service gives workers a limited, secure way to interact with payroll information without exposing the accounting firm’s full payroll-processing system. AccountantsWorld currently says the employee portal can provide access to personal profile information, pay statements, W-2s and 1099s, while the expanded Employee Self Service module adds digital onboarding, training and employee-data management.
This separation is important.
The accountant processes payroll.
The employer manages the workforce.
The employee needs access only to information and actions relevant to themselves.
Pay Statements
Pay-statement access is one of the simplest and most useful self-service functions.
Instead of contacting payroll every time a worker needs an older statement, the employee portal can make the document available directly to the authorized user. AccountantsWorld explicitly includes pay statements among the documents available through the secure Payroll Relief portal.
This reduces routine administrative requests for both the employer and accounting firm.
W-2 and 1099 Documents
Payroll Relief also provides employee or contractor access to year-end tax documents such as W-2s and 1099s.
The employee experience is only one part of that workflow.
Behind the portal, the accounting firm is responsible for year-end processing, filing and employer-client administration.
Our Payroll Relief W-2 and 1099 guide focuses on that broader process.
Employee Profile Information
Self-service can also reduce manual employee-data maintenance.
IRIS launched the expanded ESS module for Payroll Relief specifically to centralize onboarding and let employees manage data updates through a secure portal.
This can improve payroll data quality because routine changes do not need to move through disconnected emails or paper forms before reaching payroll administration.
The accounting firm and employer still determine which submitted information becomes authoritative and which changes require administrative review.
Digital Onboarding
The expanded ESS module digitizes onboarding.
AccountantsWorld describes the system as allowing new-employee information to be submitted, accessed, processed and managed inside a secure environment rather than relying entirely on paper onboarding packets.
This makes ESS broader than a pay-stub viewer.
For participating employers, it can become part of the process before the worker receives their first paycheck.
Training
Training is another part of the expanded ESS module.
AccountantsWorld’s current product description places training alongside onboarding and employee-data management.
That gives the employer a more centralized employee administration workflow while allowing the accounting firm to deepen the payroll/CAS relationship with the client.
Why ESS Matters to Accountants
Employee self-service is not only an employee convenience.
IRIS introduced the module as a way to reduce manual data entry and improve the accuracy of payroll information flowing through accounting firms.
That accountant-focused logic is consistent with the rest of Payroll Relief.
If employee data is gathered in a structured digital workflow, payroll professionals spend less time retyping and correcting information supplied through unrelated channels.
ZayZoon Earned Wage Access
Payroll Relief added ZayZoon Earned Wage Access integration in July 2026.
IRIS says ZayZoon tiles can appear inside the employee self-service experience based on the user’s registration status. In standard ESS the employee tile appears on the Pay Stubs page; in ESS with Onboarding it can appear on the ESS dashboard and direct-deposit page.
This is a significant current addition because it makes ESS a launch point for an external employee financial-wellness service.
ZayZoon Is Not Payroll Relief
The integration should not be misunderstood.
ZayZoon remains a separate service.
Payroll Relief exposes access points according to employer participation and employee registration status. Employers can also reach ZayZoon’s Employer Connect environment through Payroll Relief.
A problem inside ZayZoon therefore may not be the same as a Payroll Relief login problem.
Direct Deposit and ESS
Payroll Relief’s 2026 ZayZoon documentation references a direct-deposit page within the enhanced ESS experience.
That does not mean employees automatically have unrestricted control over every payroll banking configuration.
Direct deposit is connected to employer-level electronic-service approval, employee authorization and administrative payroll settings. The accounting/payroll relationship remains responsible for sensitive payment controls.
Employee Self-Service vs. Employer Access
An employer payroll administrator may be allowed to work with payroll entry or employee maintenance.
An ordinary employee should only see their own information.
Those are two different access models.
This is why a page titled simply “Payroll Relief portal” can be misleading unless it identifies who is actually using the portal.
Historical W-2 Access
IRIS’s July 2026 historical-form guidance says W-2s and other tax documents are retained in Payroll Relief for up to four years from the current year.
That does not necessarily mean every former employee keeps the same self-service account indefinitely.
It means the payroll system retains qualifying historical forms for the accounting firm’s client record during that window.
An employee who no longer has portal access should contact the employer or payroll provider responsible for the form.
Protect Payroll Information
Do not send [PUBLICATION NAME] screenshots containing Social Security numbers, wages, bank information or tax forms.
We cannot inspect a private employee portal and do not need employee credentials to explain how Payroll Relief works.
For personal payroll records, use the authorized account supplied by your employer or payroll provider.
